KANSAS CITY — The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution passed that names the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City as the official national World War I museum and memorial.. The resolution calls for the national observance of the World War I centennial to be anchored at the Liberty Memorial. The Kansas City Star reported that the resolution also includes a compromise that allows other interests to designate a national memorial to the Great War in Washington, D.C. The Star reported that the resolution must pass the Senate, but it has bipartisan support among senators and will likely be passed by the end of the year. The Kansas City museum is the only one in the U.S. specifically dedicated to World War I and contains the largest collection of World War I material in the country. The Great War was 1914-1918. The U.S. entered the war in 1917.
