BALDWIN CITY — A former Baldwin City man arrested last week for animal cruelty this summer was a Wellsville police officer. Wellsville Police Chief Steve Gillespie confirmed that Jacob Stus, 30, was on force the at the time of the incident in June, the Lawrence Journal-World reported. Stus resigned in August and now lives in Alaska, but turned himself in last week on charges of animal cruelty and interference with law enforcement, the Journal-World reported. Baldwin City police say Stus is accused of beating and killing an animal that came onto his property June 19. Stus is free on a $2,000 bond. His next court appearance is Friday.
