OTTAWA — The first winter storm of the season brought about a half-inch of snow to Franklin County. Precipitation totals were .23 of an inch overnight. But it was the howling winds driving the snow that posed the problem and closed area schools, forced cancellations of events, and caused several vehicles to slide into ditches. And how fast were the howling winds? Charlie Adamson, rural Ottawa, said the winds were powerful enough to blow his large, four-wheel pickup truck off the road – twice — after he tried to drive west on Rock Creek Road early this morning. Other drivers reported white-outs this morning on U.S. 59 between Princeton and Richmond, and between Richmond and Garnett; and on K-68 between Pomona and Ottawa.
