LAWRENCE — The Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas has a special memorial exhibit honoring long-time Hawaii U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye through Jan. 25. The 88-year-old Inouye was buried in a military cemetery at Honolulu, Hawaii, Monday. The exhibit follows the development of Democrat Inouye’s friendship with former Republican U.S. Sen. Bob Dole, who was also seriously wounded during World War II. They met at Percy Jones Army Hospital and maintained a decades-long bipartisan political relationship. Following Hawaii’s statehood in 1959, Inouye served as Hawaii’s first Congressman and ran for the Senate in 1962 where he served for nearly nine consecutive terms. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
