WASHINGTON — Although Congress is still deadlocked over the fiscal cliff, one deadlock appears to have been resolved. After a sudden agreement in Senate and House committees Sunday, Congress is expected to extend the 2008 Farm Bill by one year today. Failure to extend the Farm Bill or approve a new bill would have caused the farm legislation to revert to the permanent 1949 Farm Bill, according to agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack. That would have had several dramatic affects including an immediate increase in farm-price supports for dairy products, and which would have caused milk prices to skyrocket to nearly $8 a gallon.
