OTTAWA — City and county snow crews are out dealing with this morning’s snow.
City public works director Andy Haney said street crews were out this morning and he said he’ll monitor the situation. Haney said that judging from the forecasts, he’s not expecting any unusual problems from the snowstorm. The Franklin County Public Works Department said a county snow removal crew was out Sunday night, and the snow-removal day shift is on-duty and a night shift will be working tonight. A winter storm advisory has been posted for all of eastern Kansas, with three to five inches of snow forecast for Franklin County. Drivers venturing out for New Year’s Eve parties should exercise special care because conditions may deteriorate this evening, the National Weather Service’s Brian Barjenbruch said. Because of the wet and windy conditions, party-goers should dress appropriately if they plan to be outside for extended lengths of time, he said.
