FONTANA — Going into the new year, Fontana residents have been flooded with water problems. Shortly after they were told that the city’s well was critically low on water, Fontana residents were handed a boil order and mandatory water-use schedule for something entirely different. The city lost water for two days when a water line broke under railroad tracks. Most residents got water back when the city hauled water from neighboring rural water districts and then detoured water through another line. Before that, city officials say the city’s well was drying up because of the extended drought. The city says it may have no choice to hook up to adjacent rural water districts but would face a $1 million tab to do so.
