MERRIAM — A 47-year-old Gardner man was taken to Shawnee Mission Medical Center Friday night as a result of a two-vehicle crash on I-35 in Merriam. Jeffrey Reed of Gardner was driving south on I-35 just south of Antioch Road when he slowed down because of the traffic, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Stanley Thomas, 57, Olathe, was driving his SUV south but failed to slow in enough time and rear-ended Reed’s car, the highway patrol said. Reed was wearing a seat belt. Thomas was also wearing a seat belt and wasn’t injured.
