OTTAWA – For the second time in less than a week, Ottawa City Police are investigating the accidental discharge of a firearm. Officers were called to Sienna South Apartments in the 900 Block of West 17th Street yesterday afternoon at 4:42 p.m. where 21 year old Christopher D. Dahlke of Ottawa had accidentally fired his gun while handling it. The bullet entered an adjoining apartment and landed on the floor. No one was home in the apartment and no injuries were reported. Dahlke was issued a Notice to Appear in Court for Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm in City Limits. Ottawa Police Captain Adam Weingartner reminds citizens to handle firearms safely and to double check if a weapon is unloaded before handling it.
