OTTAWA — A fire caused approximately $45,000 in damage to a home in the 600 block of North Cedar Street Tuesday night. The fire was caused by a dryer in the rear part of the house on the first floor, Ottawa Fire Chief Jeff Carner said. No one was home when the fire broke out, he said. Neighbors smelled smoke and alerted the fire department. When they arrived, firefighters found smoke and flames, he said. The Red Cross was contacted to help the family with temporary needs, he said.
