TOPEKA- Lincoln will be on the playbill for a special program hosted by the Kansas Museum of History in Topeka Saturday and Sunday. Researcher Barry Cauchon will talk about his research which confirmed that an artifact in the museum is in fact the crossbeam of gallows on which conspirators in Abraham Lincoln’s assassination were hanged. It is the only confirmed piece of the gallows in existence. He will discuss his findings Saturday night at 7 and Sunday afternoon at 2. His talk is free. The museum will also display two rarely seen artifacts Saturday and Sunday. Those are an umbrella held over Lincoln’s head on the way to his first inauguration and a battle flag carried by the Second Kansas Colored Infantry. The unit is featured in the opening scenes of the new motion picture ‘Lincoln.’ The museum’s current special exhibit ‘Hail to the Chief’ showcases several Lincoln-related artifacts, including a playbill fragment from Ford’s Theater with drops of Lincoln’s blood. Admission to the museum is $8 adults, $6 students, senior and military discounts. Kansas Historical Foundation members and children five and younger are admitted free.
