The Miami County Republic reports there will be two tax questions on the April 2 ballot.  There will be a county-wide vote on a proposal for a quarter-cent sales tax to build a new jail.  The Miami County Commission has proposed to replace its present jail with a new jail that would quadruple the capacity from its 21 beds to 90 beds. The new facility would also include the Sheriff’s offices and courtrooms.  The county says if the sales tax measure doesn’t pass, the county would have to raise the county mill levy by 2.3 mills to build the jail within the existing budget.  The Osawatomie School District is seeking a property tax increase for a bond issue for $3.2 million project that would move students from the Swenson Elementary School to the  Trojan Elementary building, as well as add a tornado shelter and security measures at Trojan.  The district estimates the bond issue will require an increase of a little more than two and three-quarters of a mill.
