OTTAWA — The Ottawa City Commission is expected to apply tonight for a $157,000 grant to build a multi-use path along the north side of the Marais des Cygnes River levee between Main Street and K-68 near Oak Street as well as create crosswalks across the Main Street/K68 intersection. The application continues the city’s aggressive quest for grants to expand the network of sidewalks and bicycle paths, said city manager Richard Nienstedt. If the city receives the grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation, it would kick in $58,000. The application is on the agenda for tonight’s city meeting at 7. Also on tonight’s agenda, approval to switch the cable TV franchise to a newly- formed communications company, BCI Broadband, New York City. The company bought Allegiance Communications, which has the Ottawa cable TV franchise. Because of federal deregulation, the commission has little say regarding the cable TV franchise, Nienstedt said. Also, Advantage Ford is expected to get a green light tonight to move its dealership to the south side of Ottawa. City commissioners will vote on the final site plan for the proposed dealership next to Applebee’s southeast of 23rd and Princeton streets.
