TOPEKA — The Kansas Bureau of Investigation asks the public’s help in trying to locate Robert Helms. Helms is suspected of passing himself off as a law enforcement officer, including using a false badge, while cashing phony payroll checks and writing bad checks to buy items, the KBI said. Helms is suspected of passing bad checks mostly in western Kansas, but is also suspected in connection with phony checks written in Garnett and Louisburg late last month. Helms is 45 years old, is 5-foot, 7-inches tall; weighs 190 pounds and has blue eyes. He has short gray hair. He is known to wear round glasses and looks older than his age. He has recently been seen driving a maroon, possibly Chrysler or Dodge, minivan. If you think you’ve seen Helms, the KBI asks that you call 911 or 1-800-KS-CRIME.
