Two sections of K-68 have been included on a list of preliminary engineering projects announced by Governor Sam Brownback Monday. On the list, preliminary engineering for a modernization project on K-68 between Pomona and Ottawa. Prelimary engineering will continue for a proposed four-lane expressway on K-68 between the US-169 interchange northeast of Pomona and Louisburg.
Preliminary engineering refers to the pre-construction work and planning that must be done before road work begins. It includes such things as design work, corridor study and identification of and purchase of right-of-way. Depending on the type of project, the pre-construction phases of a project can take months or years to complete.
