OTTAWA — Ottawa High Sschool basketball standout Semi Ojeleye set the Kansas high school career scoring record Tuesday night. Ojeleye needed 17 points to tie the 2,554-point record set 17 years ago by Brewster’s Josh Reid. Although he was swarmed by Eudora defenders throughout the game, Ojeleye scored 26 points. The top-ranked Cyclone boys remained unbeaten by beating Eudora 65-27. Breaking the record was a relief and removes a lot of pressure both for him and the team, he said. The team can now concentrate on getting to the state tournament and winning the crown, he said. “The individual honor is nice but it’s really the team’s,” Ojeleye said. “It’s about the team and winning.” The Cyclones were scheduled to end their regular season Thursday but that could be postponed because of the weather. If the games are postponed, the Empty Bowls event will also be postponed to the new game night.
