KINCAID — A failed bank robbery in Kincaid Wednesday morning ended up with a shootout in Linn County that resulted in one person being wounded. A man with a handgun tried to get into the Citizens Bank in Kincaid but was foiled because the main entrance was locked, Anderson County Sheriff Vernon Valentine said. A Good Samaritan followed two men in pickup leaving Anderson County after the attempted robbery and kept authorities posted of the suspects’ location, Valentine said. At the urging of dispatchers, the Good Samaritan backed off after one of the men pointed a gun, Valentine said. A state trooper picked up the pursuit in Linn County, he said. The suspects fired several shots, hitting the state trooper’s car, he said. Troopers returned fire, hitting one of the men, and the pickup was finally stopped near Mound City and both men in the truck were arrested, he said. One suspect was taken to a hospital. Valentine had no immediate identification of the suspects. He said the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have taken over the case.
