A special judge set an ouster hearing and a preliminary hearing for Sheriff Jeff Curry Wednesday morning in Franklin County District Court.  This was the first hearing for Curry, who has been charged with interfering with a law enforcement officer and official misconduct. Deputy Jerrod Fredricks, who didn’t attend court, has also been charged with interfering with a law enforcement officer.  The Kansas Supreme Court appointed John E. Sanders, a retired Butler County judge, to handle the cases.  A hearing to oust Curry from office has been tentatively set for March 14.  In that hearing, Special Prosecutor Todd Hiatt will seek to remove Curry from office.  Hiatt told Sanders that unless he comes to an agreement with Curry and his attorney concerning Curry’s official duties, he wants to have an ouster hearing as soon as possible.   Preliminary hearings for Curry and Fredricks have been tentatively set for April 1 .  The preliminary hearings will determine if there’s enough evidence to try them.
