OTTAWA- A 61-year-old Ottawa woman has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for running a prescription drug trafficking ring tied to the death of an Ottawa man.  Connie Edwards pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute prescription drugs.   Edwards admitted that from November 1, 2007, to February 28, 2012, she conspired with others to distribute Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Methadone, Morphine and other prescription drugs in Ottawa.  US Attorney Barry Grissom says an investigation began early in 2010 when the Franklin County Drug Enforcement Unit learned that people working for Edwards were distributing prescription drugs in Ottawa.   Investigators heard that Edwards rented to people who paid her in prescription pills and she accepted stolen property in payment for pills.  On May 10, 2009, William Thomas Powell died from a toxic mix of prescription drugs bought from the Edwards ring.  Eight other members of Edwards’ drug ring face sentencing later.  Morgan Price, 22, Ottawa, has already been sentenced to five years of probation.
