OTTAWA- The case of a former county employee accused of sex crimes with a four-year-old child two years ago went to the jury Wednesday afternoon. Eric Scrutchfield of Ottawa has been charged with rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and lewd and lascivious behavior. He took the stand to testify in his own defense Wednesday morning and denied the charges against him. His defense attorney also questioned several parents who used his wife’s daycare center, who testified they didn’t see any problems. A defense expert also expressed doubts about the interview of the child.
