OTTAWA – Some surprising results in the trial of a 28-year-old Ottawa man charged with raping a 4-year-old girl at his wife’s daycare. Eric Scrutchfield was found not guilty of rape and lewd and lascivious behavior. The jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on the alternative charge of aggravated indecent liberties and criminal sodomy. Scrutchfield’s attorney John Boyd says it’s time of rejoicing for his client. There was no indication of a decision on whether the state will retry Scrutchfield on the two charges on which the jury was split.
