OTTAWA – The jury has returned with a partial acquital verdict in the case of a 28-year-old Ottawa man charged with raping a 4-year-old girl at his wife’s daycare. Eric Scrutchfield was found not guilty of rape and lewd and lascivious behavior, and the jury was split 11-1 in favor of acquital on the alternative charge of aggravated indecent liberties and criminal sodomy. Scrutchfield syas he has learned some important lessons. The State can re-try Scrutchfield on the aggravated indecent liberties and criminal sodomy charges, but have not given an indication yet of their intention.
