TOPEKA — The Kansas cold weather rule ends on Sunday. Kansans who are delinquent on electric and natural gas utility bills will be subject to disconnection of service after Sunday. The rule provides protection to residential customers who cannot fully pay winter utility bills from companies subject to the Kansas Corporation Commission but that protection ends Sunday. The KCC says if you’re behind on your utility bills to contact your utility company to set up a payment plan. However, the KCC says that failing to make arrangements to pay or failing to follow through on an established payment plan could result in service being cut off. Reconnection may require payment in full. The cold weather rule requires utilities to set up 12-month payment plans for customers who can’t afford to pay their full bill.
