MANHATTAN — A retired Manhattan doctor and Kansas State University employee were killed in a plane crash near Tulsa Sunday. WIBW Channel 13 of Topeka identified the men as 40-year-old Chris Gruber and 71-year-old Ronald Marshall. Gruber was the top fundraiser for K-State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Marshall was a long-time doctor in Manhattan, and he owned the plane. The FAA says Marshall’s single-engine aircraft took off from Tulsa International Airport Sunday night on a flight to Manhattan. However, shortly after it took off, the plane crashed into a vacant house in Collinsville, Oklahoma. WIBW says a witness told a Tulsa television station that there was a pop, items fell off the plane and the wings appeared to fold in immediately before the crash. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
