POMONA — When a state wildlife ranger went to the Pomona area to check a complaint about trespassers Thursday afternoon, two men took off running, setting off a manhunt involving state officers and Franklin County Deputies. One of the runners raced through woods and swam across the Marais des Cygnes River before he escaped into Osage County. Sheriff Jeff Richards said the men hadn’t done anything wrong, and he’s not sure why they ran. One man was captured. Richards said officers know the man who escaped.
