NEW CENTURY — Beginning today, weather permitting, east-bound and west-bound U.S. 56 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between an area just east of I-35 to the bridges over New Century Road in Johnson County. Crews will be repairing the concrete pavement, the Kansas Department of Transportation said.. They will be doing partial and full depth patching to the existing concrete pavement. Work will take place Mondays through Fridays during daylight hours and the road will be restricted until the work is done. The repair project is scheduled to be completed by early August, weather permitting, KDOT said. Electronic message boards will alert drivers to the lane closures. Drivers should expect some delays during the peak hours and should use alternate routes, if possible.
