PAOLA — It’s ugly, and it will get uglier. The Miami County Republic reported that after the city of Paola got several complaints about the unsightly condition of the Union Pacific Railroad overpass bridge on North Pearl Street, they asked the railroad to paint it. The paper reported the railroad refused to paint it and told the city to paint it itself. However, the railroad said the city would have to fill out a seven-page form requesting permission to paint it. The railroad said the city would also have pay $400 to be placed on the Union Pacific’s insurance policy and then pay more to buy another policy through the city’s insurance in which Union Pacific would be the policy holder. Oh, and the city would have to buy pollution liability insurance. The Republic reported that the city council decided to forget it.
