SHAWNEE COUNTY — A judge has ruled he wants to see investigation materials pertaining to the 1959 “In Cold Blood” murders that a Kansas Bureau of Investigation agent kept at home.  The Associated Press reports that Shawnee County District Judge Larry Hendricks has blocked attempts by the son of KBI agent Harold Nye to auction the material.  Hendricks says the state owns the materials and could face “irreparable harm” if the Nye’s materials became public or were sold.  The materials include Nye’s personal journals, copies of records and other materials that inspired the classic crime book by Truman Capote.  The book details the case, in which the KBI tracked down the killers of the Herbert Clutter family at their western Kansas home near Holcomb.  The state tried and executed Richard Hickock and Perry Smith for the murders.
