TOPEKA – Families in Kansas with intellectually or developmentally disabled children are banding together to try and prevent governor Sam Brownback from including long-term care in KanCare. In order to achieve this goal, families of the I/DD community are starting the “Dear Governor” campaign. The campaign will feature television and radio spots that feature families of the I/DD community, urging the governor to exclude long term care from KanCare. If included, long term care would be turned over to three for-profit insurance companies, beginning on January 1st, 2014. The Kansas Legislature will begin its “wrap up session” on May 8th at which point they will make a decision on the issue.
