TOPEKA – Pres. Barack Obama has declared several Kansas counties, including Franklin and Osage counties, as federal disaster areas. The disaster declaration means the state of Kansas and those counties will receive federal money for at least 75 percent of the clean-up and recovery efforts resulting from the late February blizzard. The federal funds will go a long way toward helping the counties recover from the costs caused by the winter storm, Gov. Sam Brownback said. Certain private non-profit organizations are also eligible for reimbursement of their costs and repair or replacement of buildings and equipment.
