OTTAWA — Eight people have applied for former Ottawa city commissioner Jeff Richard’s vacant seat. The four commissioners will interview the applicants at this afternoon’s study session beginning at 4:30. The list includes two former city commissioners. Commissioners will interview in order, Gary Jordan, Ruthanne Wasko, former commissioner Rocky Fleer, former commissioner Richard Jackson, Barb Humm, Richard Johnson, Shawn Dickinson and Helen Hood. The last interview, which is Hood’s, will begin at 8:30 p.m. The person selected by commissioners would serve the remainder of Richards’ unexpired term, which is two years. Richards, who was appointed sheriff, immediately stepped as commissioner after he was sworn in.
