KANSAS — Flood insurance rate will increase for new and renewal policies. Kansas Commissioner of Insurance Sandy Praeger says the rate increases are part of the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 passed by Congress . She says most homeowners insurance policies don’t cover flooding and homeowners and renters may have to get coverage through the National Flood Insurance Program. She says there is a 30-day waiting period after the purchase of a flood insurance policy before the coverage goes into effect so Kansans should take that into consideration when they buy coverage.
