Body Believed to be 18-month-old Lana Bailey Found in Osage County, Kansas
On May 11, an Osage County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was checking an area for items that could be connected to the multi-homicide reported on May 6 in Franklin County, Kansas. Franklin County Deputies responded to assist and confirmed that items located were indeed connected to the homicide. The area was secured and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit was requested to respond and process this new crime scene.
Evidence collected at the location corroborated earlier information that leads investigators to believe the remains of Lana Bailey were recovered. We hope that a forensic examination will make a final identification; and until the identity is confirmed investigators will continue following up on all tips, leads and information connected to this crime.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards, “It is with great sadness that I report a body found in Osage County, Kansas is believed to be the remains of 18-month-old Lana Bailey. I want the family of Lana, and all of the victims, to know that this investigation will continue until we are confident we have collected as much evidence as we can to ensure justice is served on behalf of all four victims. Confident and capable investigators from multiple volunteer, local, state and federal agencies worked almost non-stop to find Lana since this horrific crime was reported. It is not the outcome we’d hoped for but knew we couldn’t stop searching until Lana was home.”
