PLEASANT GROVE — A 21-year-old Kansas University student from Leawood was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 59 and Douglas County Road 458 south of Pleasant Grove. Brian Boyd, Leawood, was driving east on Douglas County Road 458 and failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the U.S. 59 intersection, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. His SUV struck the struck the front corner of a south-bound vehicle driven by 40-year-old Deborah Chitwood, Shawnee. Boyd’s SUV rolled two-and-a-half times and came to rest on its driver side against the guard rail.
Chitwood’s vehicle crossed over the median and ended in the north-bound lanes. Boyd wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was partially thrown out, the highway patrol said. Chitwood was injured and taken to Lawrence Memorial Mospital. She was wearing a seat belt, the highway patrol said.
