WICHITA – The Lawrence Journal World reports Wichita authorities are considering imposing fines of 1,000 dollars for residents who excessively use water. The proposal would be instituted to help save water while resources are low. The plan would only be temporary and is considered a short-term solution. The $1,000 fine would be imposed on any resident or business that uses 310 percent of their average winter water usage in a month. There would be a grace period for first month offenders. A letter would be sent with a warning for those who use 310 percent of their average winter water usage in a month, with a fine being enforced with a second month of excessive water usage.
