GARNETT — Garnett ethanol plant officials say they plan to restart operations with the fall corn harvest. Kansas Agri-Energy officials tell the Anderson County Review they plan to restart the plant, but it will remain closed with a minimal number of employees until production restarts. However, the weather could have an impact on production plans. This year’s corn harvest started about a month late because of spring rains, which went a long way toward relieving the area of the drought that plagued the county for two years. The drought ruined corn crops for the last two years, causing sharply lower supplies and sharply higher prices, which helped force the ethanol plant to reduce production last year and to end operations last fall. The plant employed 35 people when it shut down.
