NORMAN, Okla. — Meteorologists report that the tornado that struck El Reno, Okla., last Friday evening was the biggest in recorded history. ABC News reports that relying on radar data, the National Weather Service in Norman, Okla., has upgraded the tornado that touched down near El Reno to the most powerful category of EF-5, with winds near 300 miles an hour. Radar indicated there were three to five smaller tornadoes in the main tornado. The tornado, which was 2.6 miles wide – double the size of the twister that devastated Moore, Okla., the week before, was on the ground for more than 16 miles and barely missed El Reno. While it was on the ground, it killed storm chasers Tim and Paul Samaras and Carl Young. The storm system killed at least 19 people, mostly from flash flooding. Several more remain people are missing.
