LAWRENCE — The north-bound and south-bound lanes of the U.S. 40 bridges over the Kansas River in downtown Lawrence are reduced to one lane each direction. The around-the-clock work began this morning to replace bridge bearings, the Kansas Department of Transportation said. Traffic will be directed through the work zone via cones and signs. Advance message boards will alert drivers to the lane closures. Drivers should expect major delays during peak travel times, KDOT said. The work is scheduled to be completed by mid-July, weather permitting.
