GARNETT — Garnett city commissioners could eliminate one surprise for motorists entering the city from the west when they meet tonight. At the request of Garnett business owner David Lybarger, who lives just outside the city limits, city commissioners agreed to consider changing the speed zone at the Seventh Avenue entrance, the Anderson County Review reports. In his request, Lybarger noted that drivers are often surprised and confused by the sudden drop in speed limits from 55 to 30 as the road turns and becomes Westgate Road. At one time, the city received many complaints from people who were ticketed for speeding along Westgate Road, city manager Joyce Martin said. At a recent meeting, city commissioners agreed with Lybarger’s suggestion of raising the speed limit by 10 miles an hour to 40 to ease the change, the Review reported. The matter is on the agenda for tonight’s meeting.
