TOPEKA — The executive director of the Kansas Corporation Commission has left. A KCC spokesman said as of Friday, Patti Petersen-Kklein was no longer employed by the commission. He did not say if she was fired or quit. Her departure came a day after KCC commissioner Tom Wright sought to fire her in an open meeting Thursday. His motion failed and the commission then entered closed session but adjourned without any action. The action follows a consultant’s report that Petersen-Klein was at odds with KCC staff and that the rift couldn’t be repaired. KCC’s director of administration and finance Jackie Montfoort-Paige will be interim executive director.
The KCC regulates natural gas, oil, electricity, telephone, and transportation companies provide safe, adequate, and reliable services at reasonable rates. The KCC also has the mandate of seeing that oil and gas producers protect property owners and environmental resources.
