GARNETT — A missing Garnett couple who disappeared during a trip to Illinois were found safe in northern Michigan this morning. Vernon Hunt, 91, and Goldie Hunt, 81, ended up missing after leaving early Monday morning for a trip to Dwight, Ill., and not arriving Monday night. They were located in Mio, Mich., where they stopped to ask for directions back to Kansas. Mio is more than 400 miles from Dwight. Police said family members are planning to fly to Michigan and drive the couple back. No medical problem appeared to be involved, Garnett Police Chief Kevin PeKarek said. They apparently just got lost, he said. The Hunts have a cell phone but it was apparently not turned on.
