VASSAR — Weather permitting, beginning next Monday, east-bound and west-bound K-268 will be closed to all through traffic just east of K-368 in Osage County. The K-268 bridge over the abandoned Missouri Pacific Railroad near Vassar will be removed, the Kansas Department of Transportation said. Instead, a rigid frame box structure for pedestrians using the Flint Hills Trail will be built. A marked 15-mile detour will be provided via U.S. 75, K-68 and K-268. The project is scheduled to be finished by early November, weather permitting. The total contract cost is about $860,000.
