GARNETT — A Garnett native has chronicled her journey across the world in a new book and online blog. Jamie Rockers has published the book “Savannahs and Sunsets, An African Overland Adventure,” about her three-month trip across Africa. A 2000 Anderson County High School graduate, Rockers attended Pepperdine University in Los Angeles and worked in Hollywood as part of her goal to become a casting director. However, the Anderson County Review reports she had a life-long dream to see the world and became hooked on travel after a trip to Argentina in 2002. Since then, she has visited more than 50 countries and lived in four of them, blogging about her adventures and writing for Japanese magazines. Despite frequent news accounts of war, corruption and poverty, she decided to take a closer look at Africa. She said that amid the troubles, Africa is a place where people learn to be patient. She describes a place of wild beauty and exciting wildlife. Her new ambition is to explore America, she said.
