ANDERSON COUNTY — Anderson County Hospital will have a groundbreaking ceremony for the new hospital Thursday afternoon at 4:30 directly behind the current hospital.  A reception will follow the ceremony from 5:30 to 7 at the Garnett Knights of Columbus Hall.  The Anderson County Review reports that construction on the new hospital is expected to take about a year or so, with the new hospital expected to be open late next year.  Anderson County voters approved a $24 million bond issue to build a new hospital and long-term care facility to replace the current hospital, which was built in 1949.  St. Luke’s Health System, which leases the building and operates the hospital agreed to more than double its present annual lease payments to about $1 million to subsidize the construction and reduce the burden to taxpayers. The new facility will have 10 inpatient beds, two outpatient surgical suites and 12 outpatient exam rooms; and  a 32-bed long-term care unit.  The project can be followed online atwww.newandersoncountyhospital.com.
