ANDERSON COUNTY — Anderson County’s corn harvest may benefit from the “just right” rain and temperatures over the past few weeks. Anderson County Extension Agriculture Agent Shannon Blocker tells the Anderson County Review that the rain came at a good time in the corn’s growth cycle. Although corn planting was late and the harvest may have a late start, Blocker expects it to be a good crop. The Review notes there’s a lot on the line for this year’s corn harvest, with the East Kansas Agri Energy Ethanol Plant slated to reopen next month after suspending operations last year because of two years of bad corn harvests. About two dozen employees are expected to return to work when the Garnett plant reopens. Sue Schulte of the Kansas Corn Growers Association says corn supplies will increase, although prices have gone down. She says that’s good for end-users like the ethanol plant and livestock feeders.
