LOUISBURG — A 17-year-old Louisburg High School student was killed Saturday night in a one-vehicle crash. Auston McLelland was a Louisburg quarterback who was returning home from a back-to-school night at the high school. A passenger, Drew Carder, 17, Louisburg; was injured. The Miami County Sheriff’s office said that McLelland passed another vehicle but lost control and went off the right side of the road. McLelland’s car overturned, throwing him from the car, and his car hit a utility pole along Metcalf Road north of 271st Street, Undersheriff Wayne Micnkley said. McLellan was taken to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Kansas City, where he died. Carder was treated at Overland Park Regional Medical Center and released. Louisburg students held a candlelight vigil Sunday night. Grief counselors were to be at the high school this morning for students and staff.
