MINE CREEK — The visitor center at Mine Creek Battlefield State Historic Site has closed for the rest of the 2013 summer travel season. The Kansas State Historical Society said the outdoor informational signs and battlefield walking trails will remain open to the public from dawn to dusk year-round. The visitor center will resume regular operating hours next April. Mine Creek battlefield, site of one of the largest cavalry battles in the Civil War and one of the largest battles fought in Kansas, is along K-52 near Pleasanton.
