KANSAS — The American Civil Liberties Union says it will sue Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach if he continues to sit on about 14,000 voter registration applications.  The deadline is November 11.  The ACLU says about one-third of this year’s voter applications are in limbo because a new state law that requires new registrations to include proof of US citizenship with a document such as a birth certificate or passport.  The ACLU tells the Lawrence Journal-World that those applicants fully complied with all legal requirements but haven’t been registered because of what Kobach claims is a faulty computer system.  The ACLU says Kobach is defying a US Supreme Court ruling striking down Arizona’s voter registration law, which demands additional documents, and is very similar to the Kansas law.  Kobach dismisses the ACLU’s threat.
