OSAWATOMIE — Osawatomie rancher Randy Kitchen will be back in Miami County District Court October 24 – unless the corn and soybean harvest is under way. Kitchen has been charged with two felony counts of criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, two felony count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one misdemeanor count of battery. He was charged in connection with an incident on his property west of town, in which he was accused of shooting a handgun at two occupied vehicles on his property. Kitchen is on the Miami County Planning Commission. Kitchen is free on bond. The Osawatomie Graphic reports that District Judge Steven Montgomery agreed to a motion that allows Kitchen to keep a rifle for wildlife protection or to kill a sick farm animal. The Graphic also reports Montgomery agreed to allow Kitchen to skip the October court hearing if he’s busy with his fall harvest.
