OSAGE COUNTY — Osage County Attorney Brandon Jones has offered a settlement deal to the Osage City Council for violations of the Kansas Open Meetings Act. The Osage County Herald-Chronicle and the Kansas Attorney General say the Council violated the Open Meetings law at the city meeting August 13. The Herald-Chronicle reports Council members used a secret, written ballot to fill a vacancy on the Council. The paper filed a formal protest. Jones followed up and confirmed the violation. The deal requires the Council to attend training on the Open Meetings law, to avoid further violations, and to void all decisions made during the meeting, including a new open vote on the Council vacancy.
